This all started when some kid at columbine said "This is just like Doom". It really sucks that parents today cannot trust us to decide between socially acceptable, and un-acceptable behavior. Most of us can make the connection, and can repress whatever emotions we may have learned in video games due to the concequences. Because less than 1% of society is angry enough to acctually commit these heinous crimes, they blame videogames. If there were no video games, I would bet that these types of things would still hapen. Reguardless,t here ARE videogames, and if tehy were taken away, there would be a massive uprising. This, may in fact be worse than any other violence caused by videogames. Lieberman is a cock block.

Anyone with half a brain understands the difference between video game violence and real violence. I mean, I bash hookers in the head with golf clubs on a daily basis in video games, but in reality, I've never hit someone, and if I ever do, I'll probably feel guilty about it later, because I'm just that lame. The kids that decide to go on killing sprees were screwed up already. Doom just serves as target practice for them.

One time I heard of a woman who sued teh company that makes PoP because teh ads had teh main character 'angrily pointing a sword at teh audience' and it gave her 8 year old nightmares.
The way I see it, it's the parents' fault. They give their kid a game without checking the rating or what it's rated for, and then they act surprized when their 8-year-old thinks it's OK to punch people just like in Mortal Combat or whatever (<--true story.) It's not the game developers fault, they didn't do anything wrong. They made a game and put an age rating on it--and even what the rating was for. It's the parents' fault for not checking the rating and decidnig whether or not it was appropriate. It's not the kid's fault either, since the parents are supposed to be the ones monitering what he's doing. I think most parents are responsible enough to decide what's age appropriate for their children, and the game companies try to help by putting ratings right on the outside of the package where everyone can see them. And when you get older and your parents don't have so much control over the games you play, I'd hope that you'd have enough sense by then to be able to distinguish between doing something in a game, and doing something in real life. Yeah, there are a few psychos who can't tell the difference, but they're the exceptions, and that's why it's news. Most kids are actually a lot more responsible then I would have first thought, and I say you can't judge the whole batch just because of one or two bad eggs.

That reminds me (I say that too much), Canada is coming up with a new ratings system for games, because the one currently used (E for Everyone, MA for Mature, etc etc" isn't goode enough to stop parents from buying these games for their young children. Now, what makes them think changing the system is going to keep retarded parents from buying these games for their kids? "Rated MA for blood, violence, mature sexual themes and drug use... Sounds ok for Jimmy. I mean, he's almost three... He can handle it." No, changing the system will do exactly CRAP to fix things. Stupid people will be stupid, and nothing can change that except possibly giving the death sentence for have a below-average IQ.
