In my previous post, I said "no one knows." So it seems pointless to argue about it because you wouldn't get anywhere. People will believe whatever they want to believe and it goes without saying that everyone has their reasons. It's never so simple as "They're a moron," or "They're gullible." And to believe that makes a person seem simple-minded. Learn tolerance, because without it you'll never be happy with yourself, let alone others.

Agnosticism is the only acceptable "religious" outlook for anyone with a scientific mind. We can only look so far back in time through the use of light, not all the way back. As such, there is no evidence to create a theory backed by anything other than speculation that would explain the origins of the universe. Agnosticism is admitting you don't know something and not trying to make a claim of certainty on a particular theory. You can theorize, but until you have hard evidence it's kind of dumb to believe something that some one just thought of. That's also my main problem with religion.
You can't rag on people for something they've most likely been indoctrinated into since they were infants. You need to calmly explain to them why you think what they believe is incorrect. And know that you shouldn't just completely write off religion Sure, there's a bunch of horrible shit in holy texts such as the Bible, but there are a lot of good lessons to be learned from the various religious scriptures as well. I attribute a lot of my good traits and habits to things I learned from the Bible when I was younger and was a Christian.
I think religion is silly, but that's not an excuse to be belligerent to people of faith, as doing so will most likely make them more staunchly hold on to their beliefs. Now, I don't see any problem joking about the faithful among those of a like mind, or to people of faith who don't take themselves too seriously, but I would never demonize a believer unless their faith were to adversely affect another, which, sadly, in many cases it does.
The biggest thing, however, is to be able to carry out religious discussion in a polite but direct way. Tell people what you believe but don't belittle them. That only serves to push people farther into their corner.

Just to be clear, agnosticism often refers to not just the idea that you don't know, but the idea that it is not possible to be known. In that sense, I wouldn't call agnosticism the only acceptable outlook (also you could be an agnostic atheist or an agnostic theist, or a gnostic atheist or a gnostic theist), but the way you used it, yeah.
