    Which eReader should I get?

I want one only to read books. Not to watch movies or do other shit. I want it to be able to use *cough* backup copies of books and stuff. I want to be able to transfer books via USB cable. I'll use WiFi if I really, really have to. So which one should I get? I am most interested in just the quality of the page it displays.

I have looked this up on the net and it just becomes even more confusing which one is best. I was gonna get a Sony but I read the display is not so good. I was gonna get a kindle but read you can't put in expanded memory.

Also, Sony don't sell the "Daily Edition" here. But they do sell the others.

Do you have the Kobo Touch there? That's the one Wired recommends and it's my favourite as well.

I'll never buy another Sony product due to them dropping the Other OS feature from the PS3 and the way they handled the PSN hacking.

I bought my mum the kindle for Christmas. It allows you to transfer via usb. It also supports word docs and pdfs. She loves it and I shove a lot of my uni stuff on it for reading on the couch and stuff. It's really good. I don't know anything about other readers though.

Yeah. They do not inspire loyalty. In fact they treat all their customers like utter shit. Plus they bombed Darwin in the war, the cunts. None of the blokes in Changi would use Sony stuff.

Edit: Looking into this has led me to put a Kobo Touch down on my shopping list for tomorrow. Only $129 at Officeworks...

I even have a *cough* few *cough* ebooks to load up when I get it home.

Re: Which eReader should I get?

I just got a regular Kindle for Christmas. Only $80.

Plus Amazon just released a "Send to Kindle" little app for PC. It adds a context menu option to send files to your Kindle. Works with PDF, .doc, .rtf, .txt, .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp, and .mobi. That plus a simple .epub to .mobi converter (like Calibre or something) and it's incredibly easy to move any type of "questionably obtained" material onto the Kindle.

Re: Which eReader should I get?

I was going to suggest nook, then realized that they don't sell those in Australia. Next best choice is the Kindle (any of them).

Re: Which eReader should I get?

I've used the regular kindle, kindle touch, and nook simple touch. The nook simple touch is the best out of all of those, but the kindles are good too.

You can easily transfer books to and from your PC using the free program Calibre.

It's even easier with the Kobo (you can even download stuff directly with the built-in web browser), plus you have the option of shopping around at many different stores, if you're looking for paid content. On top of that you can use public library books (almost all of which use Adobe DRM epub files, none of which use Amazon's file format).

I use a Nook Color every day of my life and it's fantastic. I just hook it up and use it like a USB drive to drop my books from my computer directly onto it. Not to mention the battery life is phenomenal, in airplane mode I can go 2-3 days of hard reading (6-8 hours/day) and not charge it once.

But apparently you don't have Nooks in Australia which is no biggie because I have used the Kindle Fire as well and it's fucking fantastic.

Eye strain and eye cancer are not quite the same thing, but I agree with your underlying point. An LCD screen simply wont cut it for a real ereading device.

E-ink wins in almost every category that matters for a reader. Massively increased batter life, highly reduced eye strain, outdoor readability, etc.

THat's right. I don't some cut down laptop bullshit. I want to read books with it. And Steve Jobs was an evil cunt too. So I won't get an iPad or anything like that on principle.
