    Maud: Can I have a Dr. Pepper, too?

    A Macbook in the same price range will be shitty. Macs have a huge markup (40%+), obviously.


    You could always buy a netbook and throw in an SSD. You can get a 60GB SSD for around $100 these days.

    For example:

    Acer Aspire One AOD257-1679 - $289.99
    64GB SSD - $119.97
    Total - $409.96

    That gives you:
    Intel Atom N570 1.66GHz
    1GB DDR3
    64GB @ GBps SSD
    10" screen

    And a 250GB HDD to spare (throw that in another computer or an external enclosure).


    Wanna spend a little more?

    HP 635 LJ513UT - $369.99
    Patriot Pyro 120GB SSD - $179.99
    Total - $549.98

    You get:

    AMD Dual-Core E-450 1.6GHz
    4GB DDR

    Also, in their defense, they're very well built machines. I would never buy a MacBook Air, because I don't want to pay out the ass for a slightly thinner laptop, but the MacBook/MacBook Pro lines are all worth what they cost.

    edit: My budget is £300- £400 which is around 477 - 636 usd atm i beleive.

    That however looks amazing. I would even consider investing in ssd at a later date.
