theres similar compensation, ranged carries have less movement speed, armor, and health/Hregen
That's all irrelevant anyway, the key to melee carry is 2 things. Be one with your axe (I'm assuming the axe that buffs damage to creeps and can be thrown every 30 or so seconds exists in LoL) and have a ranged support hero in your lane to support you.

The mechanic is different, its a 30% chance on normal attack hit for a significant amount of damage dealt to minions and pets. Excellent jungler item, and upgrades into a very good sustain item for physical damage dealers.
The meta game is very different too. The current meta is ranged physical going with a support champion bottom lane, the support takes no cs and mainly heals/buffs the ranged carry leaving all the farm to him. The support and jungler have the job of warding the map as much as possible, with the two solo lanes warding their own respective vicinities. A mage or tanky dps/sustainable champion per other lane and a jungler. The meta revolves around solo top and solo mid ganks by junglers and good CV/wards and map awareness.
There's also a 3 solo lane 1 jungle 1 roaming stealth champion meta but it sucks against people with half a brain.
Anyway, it doesn't compare.

Those might just be low tier pub metas though. Generally there are a few common metas in HoN. The most common is 2/1/2 with the responsibility of the middle solo lane to gank, although as you progress you learn that the reality is that the side lanes should help mid gank the solo hero. If you have a jungler, the most common format is to replace the dual bottom lane with a solo lane. As for warding, there are many support heroes in HoN, and you always have 1 person do all the warding as this benefits the team being able to buy all their items much faster. Other possible metas:
Cut the top lane with legionnaire + good support hero other lanes the same as normal. 1/1/2 and a jungle works well when you have a carry to support. And you can sometimes get away with 1/1/1 and junglers in both jungles. Although my personal favorite is the 0/0/5 meta where you gank the bads that get left in the suicide lane at the first creep wave.

No those are the main metas lol, there's almost no variety in LoL meta and most of the community straight up copies the meta anyway

The game is still fun, and good. I enjoy it.
That's a matter of perspective. But LoL is more lightweight, it has less early decisionmaking, item builds are less hard to understand, more people play it because it was free etc. To me it's lackluster compared to Dota 2, I never played HoN properly but you should do well to play it after it comes out, fuck paying a fuckton to get your heroes. FUCK
