Seriously guys, I'm about to do this shit. My computer is killing my soul, and I'm freaking tired of it, and Adrienne just convinced me that now is the BEST TIME EVER to impulse buy a computer. So it's happening.

I'm putting like, an $800 limit on this, just to be reasonable. I don't need it for gaming. I just want to be able to watch movies, listen to music, and run a fucking browser without it killing my soul like this one does. Oh God, I hate this computer.

I'm a Windows bitch right now, and now is not the time to change it. I don't want a Mac and I'm not going to run Ubuntu just so you nerds will jizz a little harder whenever I post pictures. Maybe one day, but not today. So, yeah, there's that factor.

EDIT: On the technical front, this is going to wind up being her primary computer cause she will drop the old crappy desktop like it's hot the second that the new one arrives. So she needs it to be awesome. Also she hoards music, movies, TV, and various other files like a WWII Jew hoards biscuits and gold teeth, so she needs an enormous hard drive or maybe just a new external?

However, since you just want a machine for browsing, I'd say to pick a machine based on the following, aka, what I did for my Mum:

1 - How big you want the screen to be

2 - Whether you want built in wireless or not.

3 - Whether you want oodles and oodles of hard disk space or not oodles and oodles of hard disk space.

Yeah, fuck Dell. Get a computer with a display of 13" or 15", because more than that is an instant battery-drainer. My 17" HP has like a 30-minute battery life

I don't guess I can attest to more cases than mine, but I can tell you that with my screen as dim as possible and my hardware set to low capacity I get a max of about 45 minutes.

Jess you totally shoulda got one on Black Friday, Wal*Mart and Best Buy had deals that made me wanna die.. For 800 bucks and an impulse by, thus not through Dell or anywhere else, I would honestly just hit up Wal*Mart:

It's not the best out there, but it certainly kicks a lot of ass for 798 bucks! Also it has Vista on it, but really it's not that bad if you're just gonna be watching movies, music, browsing and doing homework. The only thing that's a bitch is the fact that it takes years to freaking boot up! XD Anyhooo that's my input.. for what it's worth anyway.

My top reason for making her buy a laptop rather than a desktop is so that she can do her homework in living room and entertain me by talking to herself. I'm lonely in this room all alone and utterly by myself. She is also lonely in her room all alone, I can sense it.

You guys should set up a cubicle-esque computer use station, basically just put a wall between you, then you can have enough privacy to be satisfied when you need it, and never really be alone.

Frank and I are building a desk for our two computers atm. I threatened to put a divider up between us. We could make it L-shaped and have Jess's part be around the corner. Funny thing is that they thought my family was crazy having 4 computers in the living room. I am converting them, muah hahaha. I like the togetherness, and they will learn to like it too, no matter how often I have to drug them. Be happy dammit, or I will slap you.
