After applying for an account on 1337.com (LDC) you might receive an email stating that your application was rejected and your account deleted. There can be a number of reasons for this.

Recently, both manual and automated spam systems have been creating fraudulent accounts at an increasing rate. Bulletin boards all over the world have been hit hard as the human verification systems we use to prevent robots registering have been broken and spammers look for more ways to carry on their business. vBulletin has issued an alert which recommends a range of tough measures to combat this trend.

Currently, around 50% of all accounts made on LDC are suspected as fake. Just as we can't guarantee no fakes will get through, we also can't be sure your legitimate one won't be deleted.

Below are some of the tests we put new accounts through so that you can prepare your application with the best chance of being approved.


1) IP location check. We use www.dnsstuff.com to check your IP and perform a reverse DNS authenticity check, a country fraud profile check (eg. Romania and Indonesia have a high fraud profile) and match your GMT time settings to your ISP's country time zone.

2) General IP check. We check your IP against a list of known proxy server IP's and also against every IP LDC members have ever logged in with to detect banned and dupe accounts.

3) Email address check. We check your email address against the country your IP originates from. For example, james_w@bigpond.com.au is an Australian ISP address and should match an Australian ISP IP. We also make a judgement based on the email username itself, for example, sunapplejoy78352@hotmail.com looks suspiciously like a machine-generated address.

4) Email history check. We may Google your email address to see if you show up elsewhere on the net, on other bulletin boards, and the quality of your posts. This is a good indication you are a human!

5) Date of birth check. Entries such as January 1, 1901 don't look good. If you really are trying to join LDC at 108 years of age then I salute you and apologise!

6) Account profile check. We glance over the information you have entered in your profile to see if some kind of basic effort has been made to fill in a few fields such as "Interests".


It's sad we need to waste our time with so many rediculous checks but that is now the world we live in. We do it to protect our members and ease the workload on our staff from having to clean up daily spam attacks. The good news is these measures seem to be working and I've even received hate mail from a spammer based in Russia - a good sign they are hurting!

So, if your account application is declined and you are a genuine member then we apologise in advance. Please make sure you've read the guidelines above before creating an account.
