I have a desktop that used to have *nix, but it just kinda didn't last long. I prefer using my usual programs, devices, and operating systems... Don't say anything.

And... I have not only wireless on this thing... but NORMAL ethernet. I should be able to connect to the net thought my network.

I also have an IBM Netfinity 2500 server with Suse Linux 9 Enterprise Server edition free from Novel.

getting through on the net is a little difficult on *bsd, on linux it''s easy, but dhcp doesnt seem to wanna cooperate with *bsd...

(suse is barley Linux anymore :( it's sad.) i would never put SuSE on my new laptop. never ever ever

Well... I an not a true BSD fan, although OS X is based off it.

I know that Suse is barely Linux... but since I got it for free where it would normally cost... several dollars... I might as well use it.

BSD is nothing nothing nothing like OSX

maybe OSX stole teh base kernel to save time, but it's still proprietary software that costs an unusual amount of money.
and they print it on their software boxes like it's supposed to make people buy it.

The basic commands are unix based, more closely to BSD, but it is NOT BSD. It has a totally different windowing system, different networking, different mostly everything. Just the commands to run the programs are identical. There is a terminal program that will allow you to use Unix commands. It also does a good job emulating OS 9.

They don't exactly print that it's based of BSD or Unix on the boxes... actually, they just say it's based on Unix. They don't say more. They just say it's more rock solid than Windows. I kinda have to believe them.

I have about 2 programs that are Linux based, but I need a windowing program like X11 to run them. Gimp is my favorite. But if you look carefully, the structure of folders are identical any Unix OS, and you have to "mount" the drives.

uhm. jack FreeBSD, openBSD or netBSD dont come compiled with CSH, which is what the darwin terminal uses. the file structure isnt quite the same, apple has a "system" folder for chrissake.

but on the other hand, OSX can be like an openBSD server, VERY secure. i think it's a good server administration OS, if it only ran on x86 <_<

let's just finish this OS war with, my open fortress is more leet than yours..:)

I will continue to fight for Macintosh... I prefer Red Hat 9 for my Linux OS...

Sorry for double posting.

Knuckles... that is a very good laptop for general use. I can't use that for what I do, but if it suits you, perfect. Enjoy your new... laptop.
