Umm, 20 days to go! I've been pissing my pants the past few days looking at some screen shots, they look kickass... This can be the official countdown/news thread about Halo 2.

Halo 2 went gold already, and as everyone expected some crazy frenchmen (Ok, maybe not everyon expected it) have pirated it, and there's of course a 100,000 bounty on their head. :D And there are some awesome new videos out, super spoilers but I don't really care. Just 20 more days :(

Oy, I've seen the screenies too. I don't want to expect too much from it, but the piccies do indeed look sweet. I just LOVE the double-wielding (sp?), Elite Sword, and the way the shiled reacts to contact.

*Sigh*...Doom 3 is only so much fun without multiplayer... :roll:

Well, I'm proud to announce that I've reserved MY copy of Halo 2 LE at EBGames. I think EBG gets it 2-days before the official release date. It sais November 9th on the Halo 2 website, but it sais November 7th at EBG.

When I went there, a nice 7-foot tall plastic Master Chief was greeting me yielding his dual-SMGs and posing on a rock...OMG it looked s1ck! I shoulda takin a piccy, what with my camera phone and all, but I was just too excited. Maybe I'll go back...

You guys seen the TV ad for Halo 2? It sucked! I mean, they coulda done better! I read all the Halo books and they illustrated a very evil characteristic for the Covenant Prophets (they're sorta like Presidents)...but the AD shows them as little cartoon characters you'd expect to find in Mario Golf!

Jeez, I really hope Halo 2 doesn't disappoint...seen toooooo many good things for them to screw up on something like that.

Oh, and read the 1st and 3rd books...you don't know what you're missing. :wink:

I read all the Halo books and they illustrated a very evil characteristic for the Covenant Prophets (they're sorta like Presidents)...but the AD shows them as little cartoon characters you'd expect to find in Mario Golf!

Just got a call from my local EB Games store...I can't pick it up until 8:00AM Tuesday morning, instead of 12:01AM like every other store, because it's in a mall and the mall closes at 9. :(

Ah well, that's okay, in less than 12 hours I'll be pwning Grunts and shredding Elites with dual SMGs. :D

This game is absolutely excellent. The graphics have been much improved, the missions are more exciting, it actually has a story you can follow, and the weapons are much more balanced. This game shows you both sides of the story: the humans and the Covenant. It is an interesting perspective, and it makes the Covenant out to be more than mindless beasts bent on world domination.

As I said, the weaponry has been improved. The assault rifle has been replaced with the Battle Rifle which I find much more powerful and fun, and the Needler isn't such a pansy weapon anymore. The pistol still owns, though the cheap zoom has been replaced by a non-firing binocular view. It's still one of the best guns in the game, in my opinion. Dual wielding is a lot of fun, and it allows more depth to your strategy when choosing which two guns you want to carry, and since they fire independently you can deliver a brutal blow to opponents by organizing your attack pattern.

There is a mission I'm on now where you play as a different character. I don't want to spoil anything, but it's very frustrating because I cannot tell who to fire at and who is on my side because everyone looks the same. It's a fun mission for the most part, and you get to finally pick up the plasma sword (which is a lot of fun). However, I would've liked more distinction between friend and foe for this section of the game.

The sound effects are very crisp, as are the new level designs. You get to run through a city street and underground highway system early on in the game, taking Ghosts and Warthogs and Scorpion's with you. Lots and lots of fun, as well as the ability to kick people out of their vehicle and commandeer it. The physics are more realistic, too. Blasting fly-by Ghosts from the Scorpion's cannon sends them careening into walls and flipping into the air.

The enemy A.I. is improved. They actually take cover and fire blind once in awhile. If you are in dark corridors, they will jump around corners and wait for you to pass, and they will even form around you and make flanking maneuvers. Very cool stuff.

I still have issues with being flustered when there's lots of action on screen. People move around very quickly, and often times I find myself not able to rotate quickly enough, even with raised analog sensitivity. Things get hectic very quickly, and if you don't get ahead of the situation it will overwhelm you in no time.

In reality, it's like an addendum to the original Halo. Same gameplay, same look and feel, same enemies. However, since the graphics got a small enough of a boost that you can notice, everything is more convincing and realistic. The weapons have a better balance, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and the campaign is much more engrossing. If you liked the first Halo, you will like this even more. If you aren't a Halo fan, you won't be much more convinced. This isn't the be-all end-all of Xbox games, but it's a very well done sequel. The presentation and solid gameplay are top notch. It throws you immediately into the gameplay, and it says "If you're playing this, you've probably played Halo before. So go ahead, have fun." Oh, I will. Thank you very much.

Yeah, here's MY scoop:

Bought the game at 1:00PM...got home 2:00PM and played it until 9:00PM...had dinner and continued until now...which is abooout 1:45AM. So...after 10 hours of gameplay, I have to say this:

1) Excellent textures, gameplay, framerate, AI, and vehicles...you know what, I only hated 1 damn thing about this game...and it was the massive amount of textures required for the cut-scenes to load. It cuts out graphics from the distance and seems to quickly fill the screen...so for eg, it takes 3 seconds for all the textures to appear properly. And you know what? I don't care!!! OMFG there is just too much bloody fun you can have with this game! So when j00 see that glitchy, ignore it. :wink:

Dude i just bought Halo 2 today and it is the best game i have ever played i love all the cutscenes and stuff the new weapons are amazing and the graphics have been improved beyond believe i say to anyone who has an XBOX by the game and everyone who dosnt buy them both!!!
