Yes i know its a good place to meat friends and you might run into someone who claims they emt their lover on myspace... but its not as good as it all sounds, rapists, melesters, and pediphiles are on their too, adn with all the "slutty" girls on their its just nasty... i think people need ot clean up their act on myspace and get a life...
yes i have a myspace but its JUST for friends and thats it...

i think that myspace is a black hole that forces you to keep opening up multiple tabs and digging deeper and deeper into.
so i banned myself from even going to the site at work cause it gets highly addictive to keep clicking on other peoples friends and just explore all the profiles.
as far as if its good or evil i think its neither it is the people whom use it that are good or evil.

meh, myspace is evil in the sense that it's poorly programmed, terribly slow, and easily exploitable (scripts anyone?). Not to mention the fact that the ToS clearly states that any content placed on their site is owned by News. Corp. (aka Fox).

I prefer facebook, but it is kind of errie how you can look at an otherwise intrict social network of friends. If I was the government, i'd have my own personal copy of my space and facebook :P. I mean they spend years trying to infer the social connections that millions of people will gladly throw up in an hour.

myspace is dope. its fun and addicting. they have a lot of stuff to intertain you. like videos, comedies, reviews, poems, books, jobs, friends, etc.
myspace could be bad in some cases. like when u add a person u dont know or if its not private.

I read some where that myspace is actually 70% (not exact I cant remember the percentage) people 35 years of age and older. Besides that I feel you have to be a complete moron to get raped by someone on Myspace. You NEVER hook up with someone from the internet, thats just common sense. So I feel that Myspace is NOT evil.

I believe that myspace is evil because our parents are all telling us that drugs are bad. MySpace is a drug, the more friends you have, the more messages you get, the more friends you have, the more bulletins you read and post. The more bulletins that you read and post=more time spent on myspace. Myspace is a drug, you try it once and you are hooked...add me www.myspace.com/buchanan1790

Ah, I despise MySpace. Many reasons for soing so, but everyone on my side of this will probably share those reasons. I'll tell you anyway.
1) Yup. So much, and yet so little. (http://palebluedot.ytmnd.com/)
2) Most MySpace users are attention whores. I can say whore here, right?
3) It lacks sexiness beacause I'm not there.

Myspace is good.
It helps me to contact my friends so that i don't have to write letters and in case the minutes on my phone expire.
It's also useful for school, you can contact teachers thru it, and post bulletins asking what the homework was.
The news just makes a huge deal out of every idiot that gets themselves raped. Sorry if I sound cruel, but really now? have some common sense.
Anybody that has an absurd amount of friends and/or acts like an idiot on myspace gets flamed half the time.

Someone from my class in fifth grade tracked me down on MySpace the other day.

Well that's a lie, I'll deviate with a funny story. Well, it amuses me anyway. One day, a friend left their WoW game on and me alone with it. So I went on and found the first *pervert* I could and started making suggestions to him.
Then basically he followed me friend for ages asking if he liked "cake" or "pie" and.. stalked him in the game. I laughed. >_> At one point the person wasn't taking the advances well and said something along the lines of, "You're a priestess, won't you get in trouble with the guild?" MySpace? Good. It keeps people together and allows you to have your own little "piece" of the internet so to speak. When you say MySpace, everyone knows what you're talking about, and people can do shit on their pages for free. I think it's a good thing, even though it's loaded with a metric fuck-ton of ads.

But seriously, MySpace just sucks away everyone's time, lets them give away all their information to stalkers and child molesters, gives them multiple types of malware, provides viruses for people, and might even lead to genital herpes. The cons far outweigh the pros.
Though hopefully MySpace is just a fad that will quickly fade away, because it's degenerating the youth of America.

I don't consider someone who can make a profile look like a logon screen and link the data to send it to a php processing script the fgt probably got off a skiddie website a "hacker".

I have a myspace account. I rarely use it, but when I do it's just to talk to friends that I don't care for enough to call or visit.
That's another thing about Myspace. It essentially does what other good, respectable things have already been doing for years.
Need to chat with someone? Don't want to call them? Use IM!
Wanna get your ideas out onto the internet, but don't know how? Start a blog!
Want a personal space designed by you and for you that other people can see? Make a website!
And each of those things performs their given functions better than Myspace ever could. An IM client gives you a list of people who you can instantly talk to in real time. None of that PM crap to deal with. A blog is... um... well... it's just plain cool, alright? And a website offers infinitely more options for what you can do. It's near limitless. As opposed to Myspace's template crap.
Oh, and I forgot the "meeting people" thing. If you want to meet people, visit a forum, go on IRC, or just plain leave your house once in a while. They all work better than Myspace, really.
I guess that's just my opinion or whatever, but it seems to me that all Myspace does is conglomerate features from other things(IM, blog, personal website, etc) and puts them together in a very idiot-friendly fashion. Why is that so special???

MySpace is evil, people use it to steal identies and rape unsuspecting victims. Nuff said.
Other than that, its a great way to keep track of friends!

Facebook is so much better.
No gay wallpapers people put up. Just post your info, upload photos, join groups, and talk to people.

I think that it makes people feel a sense of being known, when they recieve a
Message. You log in and see that you have new comments or messages, you feel
special. I dont feel this way but I think other people do. And for myspaces template, that can be changed, but what you wrote truly does out-weigh myspace.

For facebook, if your not in a person's network, then you can't view their profile.

One problem with it is how widespread phishing is on the site. I'm not stupid enough to let my account get phished though, I mean, some of the ploys they are extremely flawed. I could post links to them, but I think that would be against the 1337.com TOS.

Most people don't because they are too stupid to check if it is already set. Facebook I know automatically sets it so that only people on your network(s) can view your profile.
Some people I know told me theirs wasn't set to that on myspace.

If Tom was given a paper bag, a wet paper bag, he would not be able to code himself out of it. There are so many flaws in myspace it's not even funny. I could list 50 of them if it wasn't for that gay liable issue.
XSS exploits are easy to use on that site, embedded code, etc. It's not even funny how stupid the general populous is.

It means nothing until I see an actual physical manifestation of the website as a man who is fucking another man. Short of that, there is no true proof.
Websites have neutral sexuality.

I think myspace evil and is only useful for keeping in contact with friends but you can use a messenger service or phone for that. Besides the government watches it very carefully to make sure nobody it threating "el Presedente' god forbid a 14 yr old make a snide remark towards Bush

I guarantee they wont shut it down. It is, however, common knowledge that the local police monitor facebook for underage drinking, etc. This is because everyone uses real names and locations are more organized... Its not worth trying to deal with all the 14y/o girls myspace's in order to find out if anyone dislikes their president.

Agreed. The only people who care about what people say on MySpace, Facebook, and any other popular social site are people such as the police, peoples' bosses from work, parents, etc. The government doesn't bother itself with things like MySpace. That's for the locals.

Lame. I have 150 some friends, with a few being bands, musicians, and groups. The rest are people I've met and enjoy keeping in touch with and meeting up with in real life. Friends from school who have moved, friends I've met at shows, etc.

So, you have 150 friends? How many do you ever actually communicate with?
Also, do you see how you could still keep up with your RL friends over the phone or with IM, rather than MySpace? Same with friends who move away and people you meet when you're out of town.

I agree with MasterGlitch. Out of 150 friends I bet only a couple of those "friends" are people you actually know. I don't really consider people you've met online to be real friends because you don't actually know what kind of person they are or aything about them. If they tell you some life story of theirs how can you be sure they are telling the truth because they could easily be lying to you.

I remember when I first signed up for a MySpace --- before the advertisements, before the publicity, before the stupid layouts and corresponding layout sites with codes that make ones profile look like ass. Really, it wasn't so bad.
Then I got tired of people posting those stupid bulletins --- scroll down, make a wish, fear the dead girl hiding under your bed should you fail to repost, survey upon survey upon friggin' survey (really, how many times must you tell me your eyes are green and your middle name spelled backwards is gabehcuoD?). I got tired of the random friend requests by bands and married Mark from Michigan and prepubescent Sarahs and Lukes. I deny pointless friend requests and have no mercy on people who clog up my bulletin inbox.
I still use it, but I'll admit the whole thing has gone to hell.

Pros =it's loaded with sexual predators ;D
but seriously, myspace is good for keeping in touch with friends.
sometimes finding ppl you used to know,
and occasionally finding a good band
[but we can leave that up to purevolume, its much better for that]
bands these days get "famous" because of myspace, and not because they are talented, but because they randomly add tons of ppl
such as :
fallout boy -these guys are horrid when playing a live show.......absolutely horrid
Hollywood Undead - the lead singer even said they were popular on myspace before they ever even played a live show. [wtf?]
so, all in all,
good for friends
bad for bands

Myspace is just like a social forum, only with more rapists, spammers, and annoying addicts. I personally have a private myspace account to keep the rapists away, yet still keep in touch with friends. Its fun when you get the chance to talk to people you havn't talked to for a few years just because of a website. Then of course, there are telephones. But of course leaving a nice cold black and white message on the computer for your friend seems ok when it has your picture next to it. Thats where people seem to part ways. In this example, lets use a bf/gf situation. Would it not be better to call them instead of leaving "ily" next to your picture on a website. (By the way "ily" is a complete different coversation of fuck holes) Commenting someone on myspace is like giving them an autographed picture everytime you see them with a little message on it. I really don't think myspace addicts, who are constantly adding friends or "whoring" poeple are good. People who do that might as well go out and actually hang with the person instead. I do support myspace for the normal group of people who use it simply for its main purpose, leaving messages and catching up with friends (maybe setting up times to meet somewhere).
Break it down
Myspace: Good (I'm in favor of myspace)
Myspace addicts (ZOMG PICTAH): Bad

meh, myspace is evil in the sense that it's poorly programmed, terribly slow, and easily exploitable (scripts anyone?). Not to mention the fact that the ToS clearly states that any content placed on their site is owned by News. Corp. (aka Fox).
I completely agree. Also, the level of customization is pretty sad. Since there have been many exploits, they're disabled useful things such as IFrames, JavaScript, and now Flash movie linking. I made my whole profile in Flash to be unique, and now the links to work. :wall:
