I'm waiting for my 400 GB external hard drive to arrive at my local comp. shop ATM :D

Plug it into both an IDE cable AND a molex connector.

Unplug it, replug it.

Right Click My Computer > HardWare Tab > Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM Drives > Right-Click Uninstall

make sure all physical connections are tight. try to clean it too. I'm assuming u have some canned air. while ur at it, give ur whole computer a checkup. cant hurt ;)
