Most likely fake.... but it makes you wonder where our technology is going. What is the future of bioengineering?

It almost looks real, but I don't think we have the technology to mass produce something like that. Also how does it stay alive inside the box? How does it breath, or eat, or anything. Also when the shelf life goes out what happens? does it die? I just don't think it would work.

This is from their FAQ:
Are Genpets Real animals? How?
Genpets are living, breathing mammals. Bio-Genica is a Bioengineering Company that has combined, and modified existing DNA to create the Genpets lineup. Genpets have blood, bones, and muscle; they will bleed if you cut them, and die if mistreated just like any other animal. The electronic components are only in the packages and are for basic life support, outside of the packages the Genpets are wholly organic.

If this is real, then modern science must have taken a huge leap while I wasn't looking..
(It didn't)

They're not real. Like the Bonai kitty and the Flat Earth Scocity.

Genpets are actually artworks — in this case plastic and latex sculptures (including circuitry and robotics) created by 24-year-old Canadian commercial artist Adam Brandejs. As the artist explained in conjunction with a 2005 exhibition of his work, the point of Genpets is to get the public thinking about the concept of bioengineering and how they feel about where that science might lead us

My intention wasn't to prove that their real.... (they're obviously not) but more to start a discussion about bioengineering, and to share a cool website.

I honestly think that if these little things were really alive and being sold as pets/toys there would have been some sort of media coverage. Cause hell if Bioengineering got that far ahead with out it leaking out god knows what there really working on.

Not real. Looks like an ARG to promote a game, or possibly the future of bioengineering n' shit.

Way to miss the boat on that one but already beat you to it. Their artworks to get people thinking about the possability bioengineering pets and how they would feel about it.

I dunno, it reminded me more of a cheap attempt to get idiots' money than a message in bioengineering.

But really, who wouldn't want a little fella to follow you around. But I would want a furry one, or a just a cloned mini verson of 50 Cent, or Bill Cosby.
why is this in the serious discussion section?

If they could actually do that, wouldn't only be a matter of time before they could do it with humans?

Yeh that would be really cool. I would want a mini Dave Mirra one. I would also get him a little bike. That would be awsome. As for a mini 50 cent, that would be crazy. The world would come to an end. There would be two 50 cents running around rapping and shooting people.

They should Bioengineer some corn or something to make it grow better, wait, they did that already.

Yeh that would be awsome. When he did a trick his little dreads would wave around. Also a mini Edwin Delarosa would be sick.

Yeh but I think that Edwin Delarosa would kill 50 cent because Edwin has all of his friends and all 50 cent has is the G-Unit.

But G-unit has guns.
Those things are freaky. Like a twisted Halloween thing. Imnagine knocking on someones door and it opens and theres 4 or 5 of those things walking around. Creepy.
