Empires is a revolutionary mod, currently in the BETA stages of development. It utilises Valve's Source engine, which is also the basis for commercial titles such as Half-Life 2. The gameplay in Empires combines elements of both FPS and RTS gaming. One player from either team is elected to act as a Commander: playing the game from a top-down perspective, his role is to construct bases and co-ordinate his troops. The remainder of the team act as soldiers, playing the game from a first person perspective in the field. At their disposal is a wide variety of fully-customizable armoured vehicles and - in a future release - aircraft.

The game is pretty sweet, but a bit buggy. I don't know if it is the mods fault or the steam engine.

The community is lacking, but there is at least a few servers that have an reasonable amount of people on it.

I've played this several times since it's release. It's first incarnation was terrible, it's current version, lackluster. I like the premise, but they need some stronger game developers to polish it a bit.

Not a big disappontment, but enough that I am not going to play Empires 24/7, as I would a great FPSRTS.

Great idea, I like it alot, but I wish someone made an actual game out of it and not just a mod.

Like I said, these guys have a good concept, but they need to get some polish. We need the Portal or TF2 dev team to pick up Empires.
